Side lifters are commonly used when lifting batteries. Batteries are often small and heavy, which is a combination that leaves little room for a top gripper.
Instead the battery is lifted from the side, combining top grip with a suction cup on the side. An alternative is lifting batteries from the top with the help of many small suction cups. On the image below a recently installed VM100 is used to lift car batteries from one crate to another, with approximate weight of about 27 kg.
